BJAK is building automation systems that help customers move through insurance journeys faster — especially during claims, where speed, visibility and trust matter most. Claims are one of the highest-trust moments in insurance. Customers expect clear updates, fast responses and fewer repeated follow-ups.

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to build systems that improve claims visibility, automate follow-ups and reduce manual coordination across customers, insurers and internal teams. This role works remotely while collaborating closely with our Malaysia-based engineering and operations teams.

The Mission

Build backend automation systems that give customers clearer claims visibility and help internal teams manage follow-ups more effectively.

What You’ll Own
  • Build backend services for claims status tracking and workflow automation.
  • Connect customer claims data, insurer updates and operational workflows.
  • Automate reminders, status changes, escalation handling and next-step tracking.
  • Improve logging, exception handling, retries and workflow visibility.
  • Investigate claims workflow failures and resolve root causes.
  • Work closely with product, claims support, operations, QA, frontend and DevOps teams.
  • Help build claims systems that customers and operations teams can trust.
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience building backend systems in production environments.
  • Strong understanding of APIs, workflow logic and databases.
  • Comfortable working through operational and process-heavy environments.
  • Strong debugging and structured problem-solving skills.
  • Careful with status accuracy and customer-facing information.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with remote teams across functions.
  • Practical, accountable and low ego.
The Kind of Builder We Want
  • Cares deeply about customer trust and reliability.
  • Thinks clearly through complex multi-party workflows.
  • Calm when processes are unclear or operationally messy.
  • Willing to solve important operational problems, not just technical tasks.
  • Focused on building dependable systems with long-term impact.
This Role Is Not For
  • Engineers who only want isolated technical work.
  • People who overlook status accuracy or operational impact.
  • People who get frustrated by external process complexity.
  • Engineers who avoid root-cause investigation.
  • People who struggle to work cross-functionally with operations teams.
Success Looks Like
  • Customers receive clearer and faster claims updates.
  • Manual claims follow-ups reduce significantly.
  • Claims support teams handle fewer repeated customer questions.
  • Workflow gaps are identified and fixed proactively.
  • BJAK becomes more trusted during critical claims moments.
Interview Process

We assess candidates based on culture fit, working style and backend problem-solving capability for customer-critical workflows. The process includes application review, interview rounds and a technical discussion or backend assessment.
