About BJAK
The original mission of BJAK is we believe people deserve smarter ways to plan, save and grow their money. This is the origin of our name. Started in 2019, we built the first mobile-first, insurance platform, enabling insurance to be accessible online by millions in the region. Today, it’s the leading insurance platform in Southeast Asia. Today, we are expanding ways to help people in the region — this includes spending, saving, investing, exchanging, travelling, and more. Our mission is to help people get more from their money every day.

We have teams working around the world, with over 20 nationalities from our offices and remotely, who truly enjoy their work. We are looking for the most talented and driven people we can find. We are looking for people who work for their passion, not counting hours. Who loves building great next-generation products, not status quo. Who cares about redefining how everyone around us can get the best financial applications, not for an exclusive few. If you're this person, we'd love to talk to you.

About the Job
We are looking for talented Android Developers to build and evolve our mobile applications that power BJAK's insurance and financial products. You will also contribute to features that leverage automation and AI-assisted capabilities where they improve user experience and operational efficiency. This is a fully remote position where you will be part of a global engineering team working across multiple countries to build reliable, scalable mobile systems.

What You'll Own:

  • Develop and deliver Android features using Kotlin.
  • Build intuitive mobile experiences across insurance, payments, claims, renewals and financial services.
  • Work closely with product managers, designers and backend engineers to simplify complex user journeys.
  • Integrate backend APIs and ensure mobile applications remain stable, reliable and performant.
  • Improve app performance by reducing ANRs, crashes, memory consumption and battery usage.
  • Use analytics, production insights and user feedback to continuously improve the product.
  • Build AI-assisted mobile experiences where they genuinely enhance the user journey.
  • Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code while contributing to code reviews and engineering best practices.

What We're Looking For:

  • 3+ years of Android development experience using Kotlin.
  • Strong experience building and shipping production Android applications.
  • Good understanding of Jetpack Compose, Android SDK, Coroutines, Flow and modern Android architecture patterns.
  • Strong understanding of mobile UX, usability and user flows.
  • Experience integrating REST APIs and debugging production issues.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, fully remote engineering team.
  • High ownership, fast execution and strong attention to quality.
  • GitHub, Google Play links or examples of shipped applications are highly preferred.

Tech Stack:

  • Kotlin
  • Jetpack Compose
  • Android SDK
  • Coroutines & Flow
  • SQL / NoSQL
  • TensorFlow Lite (on-device inference)

The Kind of Builder We Want:

  • Thinks in user journeys, not just individual screens.
  • Cares about making complex financial products simple to use.
  • Delivers quickly without sacrificing code quality.
  • Comfortable working with changing priorities and ambiguity.
  • Notices UX, performance and reliability issues before users do.
  • Takes ownership from implementation through production.
  • Honest about personal contributions and measurable impact.

This Role Is Not For:

  • Developers who only want fully defined tickets.
  • Engineers who focus only on writing code without considering user experience.
  • People who ignore crashes, edge cases, loading states or application performance.
  • Developers who struggle to adapt in a fast-moving startup environment.
  • Candidates who exaggerate their contributions without explaining their actual ownership.

Success Looks Like:

  • Android features are delivered quickly and reliably.
  • The mobile experience becomes faster, cleaner and easier to use.
  • Users complete financial journeys with less friction.
  • Production issues steadily decrease over time.
  • BJAK builds one of the best finance app experiences across Southeast Asia.

Interview Process:
The process consists of three stages:

  • Online Coding Assessment: We assess coding fundamentals, problem-solving ability and code quality.
  • Technical Interview: We assess Android fundamentals, application architecture, API integration, debugging skills, UX thinking and production-quality engineering.
  • CEO Interview: We assess ownership, execution speed, ambition, judgement, integrity and alignment with BJAK's builder culture.

Please share links to your Google Play applications, GitHub repositories, portfolio or examples of shipped work where possible. We value real-world engineering experience, clear ownership and honest thinking more than a formal cover letter.

How to prepare for a job interview at Bjak

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Bjak uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
