Your mandate is clear: secure insurer partnerships quickly, activate them fast, and convert them into sustainable, scalable revenue. This role operates at the intersection of strategy and execution. You will work with high autonomy in a fast‑paced, founder‑driven environment where speed, ownership, and results matter more than hierarchy or handholding.
About BJAK: BJAK is Southeast Asia’s largest insurance platform, on a mission to make financial services more accessible, affordable, and transparent across ASEAN and beyond. Headquartered in Malaysia, BJAK serves millions of users through Bjak.com, leveraging advanced technologies including custom APIs, data science, and scalable platform infrastructure. BJAK is known for building category‑defining products in highly regulated markets. We are the first platform globally to offer investment‑linked life and health insurance fully online, supported by instant agent access. Backed by strong growth and execution, BJAK is valued at over US$2B and is now expanding into the UK market.
Role Overview: As Business Development Manager – UK, you will act as BJAK’s on‑the‑ground representative, responsible for building strategic insurer partnerships, navigating local market and regulatory dynamics, and executing commercial strategies that drive measurable revenue impact. You will work closely with the Country Manager and senior leadership, shaping BJAK’s UK growth strategy while owning end‑to‑end execution across partnerships, revenue, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Partnership Acquisition & Activation: Identify, prospect, qualify, negotiate, and close strategic insurer and ecosystem partnerships within aggressive timelines. Own the full partnership lifecycle — from initial outreach and relationship building through negotiation, onboarding, integration, and go‑live. Drive fast‑market‑entry partnerships and minimize activation timelines through proactive stakeholder alignment. Build, own, and manage a robust and visible pipeline of insurer and strategic partners in the UK market. Maintain disciplined follow‑ups, accurate CRM hygiene, and clear reporting to ensure consistent deal progression and closures. Operate with urgency — no stalled deals, no loose ends.
- Commercial Negotiation & Deal Closure: Lead commercial negotiations with strong judgment on pricing, underwriting alignment, and partnership economics. Collaborate closely with legal, product, technology, operations, and compliance teams to finalize agreements and accelerate execution. Align internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth onboarding and timely go‑lives.
- Revenue Delivery & Partner Performance: Own monthly revenue, policy, and activation targets. After go‑live, continue driving partner productivity, volume growth, and KPI performance. Identify cross‑sell, upsell, and optimization opportunities to convert partnerships into long‑term, scalable revenue streams.
- Strategic Leadership & Market Advisory: Act as a strategic advisor to the Country Manager on UK market dynamics, insurer behavior, regulatory considerations, and growth opportunities. Represent the Country Manager in meetings, calls, and written communications with partners, regulators, and stakeholders as required. Serve as the primary liaison between leadership, partners, and internal teams to enable fast decision‑making and execution.
- Operational Excellence & Governance: Proactively identify, elevate, and resolve partner or execution issues while maintaining high standards of service and delivery. Contribute to strategic planning, policy development, and operational improvements alongside senior leadership. Support resource and capacity planning, including input on staffing and operational priorities aligned with business growth. Ensure full compliance with company policies, procedures, and UK regulatory requirements. Communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately across all stakeholders to support effective operations.
Requirements:
- If you need to be nudged, reminded, or handheld — this is not the role. You must be highly self‑driven, proactive, and accountable. We expect initiative, not instructions.
- Permanent residency in the UK and deep understanding of local insurance market dynamics and regulations.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in insurance and/or fintech, with strong commercial and negotiation capability.
- Proven understanding of insurer economics, underwriting considerations, and partnership structures.
- Established network within the UK insurance ecosystem, enabling immediate access to senior‑level stakeholders.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands‑on execution in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment.
Why Join BJAK:
- Work directly with senior leadership on strategy and execution.
- Join a hyper‑growth insurtech valued at over US$2B.
- Build insurer partnerships that impact millions of users.
- Competitive, performance‑driven compensation with strong upside.
