BJAK is building AI-powered automation systems for insurance operations across Southeast Asia - from quote generation and policy issuance to claims processing, endorsements, document collection and insurer integrations. We are looking for a Technical Lead who can design and deliver reliable, scalable systems that solve complex operational problems. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys technical ownership, system thinking and building automation that drives measurable operational impact.
The Mission
- Lead the development of AI and workflow automation systems that make insurance operations faster, cleaner and more scalable across multiple countries.
What You’ll Own
- Lead the technical design and delivery of AI automation and workflow orchestration systems.
- Build scalable backend services, integrations and APIs supporting quote, policy and claims workflows.
- Work closely with product, operations and engineering teams to simplify operational complexity into reliable systems.
- Guide engineering execution across backend, frontend, QA and DevOps teams.
- Improve reliability, observability, exception handling and operational resilience across workflows.
- Review architecture decisions, technical trade-offs and implementation quality.
- Help scale systems across multiple countries and insurer ecosystems.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong experience building and operating production systems at scale.
- Experience leading technical delivery across backend, platform or workflow-heavy environments.
- Strong understanding of APIs, distributed systems, databases and workflow orchestration.
- Comfortable working autonomously in remote and fast-moving environments.
- Clear communicator with strong engineering judgment and ownership.
- Hands-on, pragmatic and focused on shipping high-quality systems.
The Kind of Builder We Want
- Thinks clearly through complex workflows and system dependencies.
- Can lead engineering execution without losing touch with implementation details.
- Practical about AI, automation and real business constraints.
- Comfortable working closely with operations and non-technical teams.
- Driven by impact, ownership and shipping meaningful systems.
This Role May Be Less Suitable If
- You prefer staying only at the architecture or planning level without hands-on involvement.
- You dislike operational complexity or working closely with cross-functional stakeholders.
- You tend to overcomplicate solutions instead of solving core business problems.
- You are uncomfortable working in fast-moving environments with evolving requirements.
- You enjoy discussing AI concepts more than building and shipping reliable systems.
Success Looks Like
- Manual insurance workflows become significantly more automated and reliable.
- Quote, issuance, endorsement and claims processes move faster with fewer operational bottlenecks.
- Exceptions and failures are tracked, visible and handled more effectively.
- Engineering delivery becomes more structured, scalable and predictable.
- Teams trust your technical judgment, execution quality and follow-through.
Location & Work Setup
- Remote role open to candidates based in the United Kingdom.
- You will work closely with regional teams across Southeast Asia on multi-country insurance systems.
Interview Process
- We assess culture fit, working style and technical leadership capabilities.
- The process usually includes application review, two interviews and a technical discussion or practical task on workflow/system design.
- The interview process is designed to understand how you think through real operational and engineering challenges.
