Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for a defined portfolio of owner-managed business clients.
- Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships, proactively identifying client needs and opportunities.
- Conduct regular client meetings (in person and remote) to review accounts, discuss business performance, and advise on upcoming obligations.
- Respond to client queries promptly and professionally, ensuring high satisfaction at all times.
- Support client retention and identify opportunities to grow existing client relationships through additional services.
- Oversee the delivery of year-end statutory accounts, corporation tax returns, VAT returns, and management accounts for portfolio clients.
- Review work prepared by the team before it reaches Partner level, ensuring technical accuracy and quality.
- Monitor workflow and deadlines across the portfolio, ensuring all compliance obligations are met on time.
- Maintain up-to-date client engagement letters, fee agreements, and KYC/AML documentation.
- Prepare and present client-facing reports, financial summaries, and advisory commentary.
- Manage and mentor a team of accountants, including offshore delivery staff, providing direction, review, and professional development.
- Delegate work appropriately, supervise progress, and ensure review points are addressed before escalation.
- Support a positive team culture that holds high standards, celebrates achievement, and encourages continuous improvement.
- Act as a conduit between the delivery team and senior Partners, escalating technical or client issues where appropriate.
Business Development & Practice Growth
- Contribute to the growth of the practice by supporting business development initiatives and participating in client onboarding.
- Promote BizNav’s wider advisory services to existing clients where relevant and appropriate.
- Support new client pitches, proposals, and presentations as required.
About You
- ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified (or qualified by experience with demonstrable equivalent capability).
- Minimum 3–5 years of post-qualification experience in an accountancy practice environment.
- Proven experience managing a portfolio of SME/owner-managed business clients.
- Strong technical knowledge across UK GAAP (FRS 102/FRS 105), corporation tax, and VAT.
- Demonstrated experience managing or supervising a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills — confident with clients at all levels.
- Strong organisational ability with an aptitude for prioritising competing deadlines.
- Proficiency with cloud accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, or equivalent).
- Familiarity with AI‑assisted accounting tools or a genuine interest in practice technology.
- Advisory experience beyond core compliance (e.g. management accounts, cashflow, business planning).
- A commercial mindset with an interest in practice growth and business development.
