We are looking for a reliable, energetic and organised Caretaker to join our busy team as soon as possible. The ideal candidate will be organised, friendly and a team player and will be willing to work hard around the school site, and use common sense to help keep the site safe, clean and in good repair.
Responsibilities will include:
- Caretaking duties
- Maintenance work (including the grounds)
- Some general and emergency cleaning
- Emergency repairs
- Portering
- Liaising with contractors and school users
Previous experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential. Additional skills, such as DIY, painting and decorating, would be useful. We are ideally looking for someone who could work Monday to Friday 8am - 4pm. A flexible approach and a willingness to occasionally cover colleagues will be helpful, especially during particularly busy periods, annual leave and absence. Applicants must be fit and healthy. A clean driving licence would be useful, but not essential.

Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School has a diverse range of facilities that the Site Team helps manage, including an artificial grass pitch, sports hall, and grass playing fields. The site also provides accessible spaces across the site, with adapted entrances designed to support inclusive use.
The team is responsible for maintaining and developing the school site to the highest standards. Their core functions include:
- Maintenance & Repairs: Keeps buildings and facilities in good working order.
- Health & Safety: Manages compliance checks and safety standards across the site.
- Security: Ensures the school environment is safe and secure for all users.
- Contractor Management: Coordinates contractors and supports site projects.
- Grounds & Facilities: Oversees caretaking and grounds maintenance to keep the site presentable.
As our Assistant Caretaker, you will:
- Carry out physical checks of the buildings and take necessary action for any repairs, also making good of any areas which could be a source of danger to either the users or security of the building.
- Report any issues found and rectified or potential issues arising.
- Open/close the building as required during the day.
- Carry out routine cleaning duties using the appropriate materials and mechanical cleaning aids as necessary.
- Check the buildings regularly to ensure no unauthorised persons are present.
