We have an opportunity to join FBC UK at our Llantarnam bakery as Maintenance Manager. In this role, you will lead and develop the Llantarnam Maintenance Engineering teams, playing a key part in maximising equipment availability by embedding robust engineering best practices across the site.

Main Responsibilities

  • Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring all engineers work safely and fully adhere to site safety processes and standards.
  • Lead and motivate the shift engineering team to continuously improve plant reliability through effective preventive and reactive maintenance, while operating within the agreed engineering budget.
  • Develop and implement, with support from the Site Engineering Manager, a structured improvement plan to deliver the site financial budget and key performance indicators including waste, TOS, efficiency, and planned tonnage.
  • Collaborate closely with key site functions — particularly Operations, Continuous Improvement, and Health & Safety — to deliver shared site objectives.
  • Implement and embed engineering best practices in line with the Maintenance Excellence Framework, driving consistency and continuous improvement across the department.
  • Ensure all legislative, regulatory, and compliance requirements are met, providing appropriate oversight and support as required.
  • Act as a role model for site values and “winning behaviours,” actively contributing to a positive and high‑performance culture.
  • Manage team performance to minimise equipment breakdowns and deliver maintenance KPIs, including plant availability, technician productivity, PPM completion, and training compliance.
  • Work closely with the Electrical and Reliability Engineering Heads of Department to ensure departmental KPIs are achieved and aligned.
  • Ensure direct reports actively participate in SIC meetings, take ownership of actions, and deliver prioritised improvements to minimise line downtime.
  • Confirm that Team Leaders attend all agreed meetings and engage effectively in site communication and governance forums.
  • Support, motivate, coach, and develop the engineering team, recognising and rewarding performance while driving robust succession planning.
  • Manage and support up to four apprentices throughout their development journey, liaising with colleges and ensuring effective mentoring, wellbeing, and progression into the maintenance team.
  • Ensure the site engineering plan is fully implemented and effectively executed to support operational reliability and performance.

Who We Are Looking For

  • A minimum of HNC/HND or Degree in an Electrical or Mechanical engineering discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of Condition‑Based Monitoring (CBM) and equipment reliability engineering principles.
  • Proven experience in Continuous Improvement, with a solid understanding of CI tools and methodologies.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH qualified to a minimum of Managing Safely level.
  • Food Safety / Hygiene qualification (desirable).
  • Demonstrable experience of leading and developing large engineering teams in a fast‑paced environment.
  • A hands‑on technical leader who is comfortable on the shop floor and willing to roll up their sleeves when required.
  • Ideally experienced within an FMCG manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of equipment reliability, maintenance strategies, and asset performance optimisation.
  • Experience of working in a unionised environment, with the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • A proven track record of owning, reporting, and delivering weekly and monthly KPIs.
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to drive improvements in both site performance and organisational culture.
