We are seeking a dynamic and strategic R&D Manager to spearhead our local and cross-sell product development initiatives, enhancing our technological capabilities and competitive edge.
Location: Gateshead Team Valley UK.
Reports to: Director of R&D and Process
Direct Reports: NPD Technologist, Graduate Development Technologist, Senior Development Technologist.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead and manage development projects from concept through to delivery.
- Act as the principal development contact internally and externally.
- Oversee projects through the C2L system, ensuring accurate records and timely delivery.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align development timelines and launch targets.
- Monitor product costs and recommend corrective actions where needed.
- Drive innovation through ingredient research, process improvements, and value engineering.
- Ensure all new products meet legal, safety, and customer standards.
- Contribute to commercial and category strategies with a strong focus on food and innovation.
- Represent BI UK at awards, events, and exhibitions.
- Degree/HND in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related field.
- Proven experience leading an NPD function in a similar sector.
- Strong track record of delivering innovative products to market.
- Deep understanding of food safety, HACCP, and sensory analysis.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and influencing skills.
- Proficient in IT and project management tools.
- Experience across multiple market channels (Retail Own Brand, Brand, Co-manufacturing).
- Familiarity with Clarizen or similar project management systems.
