Bis Industries is seeking an experienced Quality Compliance & Technical Supervisor to lead and support compliance across our accredited facilities, with a strong focus on AS3800, AS3584, ISO9001 and ISO/IEC17020 systems. This is a pivotal role for a technically capable professional who thrives in governance, quality systems, and continuous improvement — and who can influence outcomes across operations, maintenance, and leadership teams.
About the Role
Reporting to the Asset Manager, the Quality Compliance & Technical Supervisor is responsible for the ongoing ISO9001 and ISO/IEC17020 compliance of Bis Industries’ Quality Management System (QMS). You will lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of quality and compliance frameworks that support the company’s strategic objectives and regulatory obligations. With a major emphasis on AS3800 and AS3584 compliance, this role works closely with Asset, Maintenance, Technical Services, and Operations teams to strengthen governance, manage risk, and drive consistent quality outcomes across the business. This role is residentially based in Newcastle (Tomago), with occasional travel required for audits and site-based compliance activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain ISO9001 and ISO/IEC17020 accreditation and audit readiness.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with AS3800 and AS3584 licensing requirements.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve QMS frameworks and documentation.
- Lead and coordinate internal and external audits, including regulator and NATA engagement.
- Facilitate risk assessments, inspections, corrective actions, and close-out activities.
- Provide technical compliance guidance to workshops and operational teams.
- Monitor technical bulletins and ensure system and process alignment.
- Promote and uphold Bis’ Zero Harm safety culture.
What You’ll Bring
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering (preferred), or Trade qualification in Mechanical or Electrical discipline.
- Cert IV or other relevant formal qualifications (desirable).
Experience & Capability
- Strong background in ISO9001 and ISO/IEC17020 systems and processes.
- Demonstrated QMS experience within an AS3800 or AS3584 licensed facility.
- Experience working with ERP and maintenance management systems.
- Sound understanding of underground coal equipment, maintenance practices, and asset integrity.
- Experience engaging with regulators, statutory bodies, clients, and external auditors.
Leadership & Communication
- Proven ability to influence, coach, mentor, and motivate at site and operational levels.
- High-level literacy skills with the ability to produce professional technical reports, audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and client presentations.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with a consultative, collaborative approach.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to prioritise in a dynamic environment.
- High personal accountability, autonomy, and attention to detail.
