Head of Operations – Road Freight Basildon £80,000 – £90,000 + bonus, car allowance and benefits Overview: Our client is a leading freight forwarding business offering services to their customers across road, ocean and air freight as well as general logistics, ecommerce fulfilment and customs. They are seeking an experienced, strategic operational leader with a strength on European road freight to take on a Head of Operations position and play a key role in complimenting and working alongside the Managing Director to guide the future ongoing growth of the business. Key Responsibilities: Provide operational leadership for the business and manage operational P&L. Lead and manage day to day operations ensuring smooth delivery of services across the UK & Europe with a particular focus on road freight, general logistics and customs. Work with, develop and mentor a team of managers and supervisors driving a culture of performance, accountability and continuous improvement. Identify and implement operational efficiencies, cost savings and process improvements. Collaborate closely with the managing director to align operational and commercial strategies. Person Specification: A proven track record of experience in senior operational leadership roles within freight forwarding and logistics. An in depth knowledge of European road freight networks, carriers and regulations. A solid understanding of customs compliance and international freight forwarding compliance. Exceptional people management skills with experience in leading freight logistics teams. Able to influence, develop and guide middle management cohorts to maximise workforce capacity and capability. Commercially minded with a focus on service quality and operational efficiency. Excellent communication, decision-making and organisational skills and an ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment.
