Summary: An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technical Manager to lead the technical function within a food manufacturing environment. Reporting to the Factory Manager, the successful candidate will ensure all raw materials and finished products meet required safety, legal, customer, and quality standards while driving continuous improvement across the site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain HACCP controls to ensure food safety and compliance standards are met
- Ensure audit readiness and compliance with BRC and retailer requirements
- Own and develop the Quality Management System (QMS)
- Investigate process deviations and customer specification issues, implementing corrective actions where required
- Monitor quality KPIs and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Act as the key contact during customer visits, audits, and business reviews
- Lead, support, and develop technical and quality teams across the site
- Deliver food safety and quality training programmes
- Ensure production and QA teams remain audit-ready at all times
- Oversee laboratory operations and quality testing activities
- Support cost reduction and site improvement projects
- Keep the business updated on food manufacturing legislation and regulatory changes
Key Skills/Experience:
- Proven experience in a Technical or Quality Management role within food manufacturing
- Advanced Food Hygiene Level 4 (or equivalent) and HACCP Level 4 qualifications
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Experience working with UK retailers and retailer audit standards
- Strong problem-solving ability with experience using root cause analysis techniques
- Ability to work collaboratively across production, operations, and technical teams
