We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Transport Manager to oversee and coordinate daily transport operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of goods and vehicles. The successful candidate will manage drivers, fleet compliance, route planning, and operational performance while maintaining high standards of customer service and legal compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day transport operations and fleet activities.
  • Ensure full compliance with transport legislation, health & safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Plan and optimise delivery routes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Monitor vehicle maintenance schedules, MOTs, servicing, and defect reporting.
  • Manage driver schedules, holidays, training, and performance.
  • Oversee tachograph compliance, driver hours, and Working Time Directive requirements.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and service failures, implementing corrective actions where necessary.
  • Maintain accurate transport records and reporting systems.
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers, and internal departments regarding transport operations.
  • Monitor KPIs such as fuel usage, on-time deliveries, and fleet utilisation.
  • Support recruitment and onboarding of drivers and transport staff.
  • Manage transport budgets and identify cost-saving opportunities.

Key Skills/Experience

  • Previous experience in a transport or logistics management role.
  • Strong knowledge of transport legislation and fleet compliance.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and solve operational issues quickly.
  • Proficient in transport management systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organisational and planning abilities.

Desirable

  • CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification.
