Summary
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Transport Manager to join a successful distribution operation at their new site in Northampton.
This role will play a key part in establishing and leading a safe, compliant and high-performing transport function, supporting store delivery, inter-site trunking and third-party hub movements across a fast-paced retail network.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the transport operation for the new Northampton site, delivering strong service, safety, compliance and cost performance.
- Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence, DVSA, Health & Safety and wider regulatory requirements.
- Manage and develop a mixed workforce of permanent, agency and third-party transport colleagues.
- Monitor transport KPIs, service performance, utilisation, fuel efficiency and productivity, using data to identify and deliver improvements.
- Control transport costs across agency spend, fleet utilisation, fuel, productivity and third-party providers.
- Work collaboratively with warehouse, planning, distribution and wider supply chain teams to ensure seamless end-to-end execution.
- Support resilience and disruption planning, ensuring the operation is prepared for peak trading and unplanned events.
Experience
- Transport Manager CPC qualification is essential.
- Proven experience managing transport operations and leading transport teams.
- Strong knowledge of UK Operator Licence obligations and transport compliance requirements.
- Experience managing agency labour, third-party providers, KPIs, budgets and operational performance.
- A background in retail, FMCG, 3PL or high-volume distribution would be highly advantageous.
- Previous HGV driving experience would be desirable but is not essential.
