Summary: We are recruiting for an experienced Transport Manager to lead the transport operation at a busy Leeds depot. Working a back shift starting at midday till 9pm, Monday to Friday, you will take ownership of daily transport activity, driver management, fleet compliance and service performance, ensuring routes leave on time and all operational standards are consistently achieved.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the depot transport team, maintaining full operator compliance and supporting a safe, efficient and customer-focused delivery operation.
- Manage drivers and daily transport activity, ensuring sufficient resource is in place for the delivery requirement.
- Monitor vehicle roadworthiness, driver walk-round checks, defects, PMI schedules and all aspects of operator compliance.
- Ensure drivers' hours, tachograph downloads and infringement reports are managed in line with current regulations.
- Maintain and update the transport management system, daily run sheets, usage reports and weekly transport overview reporting.
- Brief and debrief crews, manage service failures and communicate performance updates clearly across the business.
- Recruit, train, coach and develop transport colleagues, including performance reviews, probation reviews and disciplinary investigations where required.
- Coordinate vehicle maintenance, accident and incident reporting, PDA management, depot costs and agency driver compliance.
Experience:
- The successful candidate will be a hands-on transport professional with strong leadership capability, excellent compliance knowledge and the confidence to manage a fast-paced depot operation.
- Previous experience managing transport operations, ideally within a depot, multi-drop, home delivery or logistics environment.
- Transport Manager CPC qualification is required.
- Strong understanding of driver hours, tachograph rules, vehicle compliance, PMI schedules and health and safety requirements.
- Confident using transport systems, tachograph analysis software, Microsoft Word and Excel.
- A clear communicator with the ability to lead, motivate and develop teams while building strong relationships with internal departments, service agents and agencies.
- Able to analyse trends, identify improvements and maintain high standards of service, safety and cost control.
Hours: Back shift starting at midday, Monday to Friday.
