Job Summary:

We are seeking a versatile and professional Qualified Dental Nurse to join our NHS dental practice. This role combines clinical nursing duties with decontamination duties and reception responsibilities, ensuring high standards of patient care and practice efficiency. The ideal candidate will be flexible, well-organised, and committed to delivering excellent service in both clinical and administrative settings.

Key Responsibilities: Clinical (Dental Nurse) Duties:

  • Provide chairside assistance during a wide range of NHS dental procedures
  • Prepare and maintain clinical areas in line with HTM 01-05 and infection control protocols
  • Decontaminate instruments and ensure surgery cleanliness and readiness
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient clinical records
  • Support clinicians in delivering high-quality NHS dental care
  • Assist in the handling and processing of NHS forms and referrals

Reception / Administrative Duties:

  • Welcome and check in patients in a friendly and professional manner
  • Book, reschedule, and manage appointments using dental software – SOE Exact
  • Answer telephone and email enquiries efficiently and confidentially
  • Handle NHS paperwork, treatment plans, and patient recalls
  • Take payments and issue receipts in line with NHS charging guidelines
  • Maintain the reception area to a high standard of organisation and cleanliness
  • Communicate effectively with all team members to ensure smooth patient flow

Requirements:

  • NEBDN National Diploma or equivalent in Dental Nursing (we are only considering applicants who have this qualification or equivalent for this role)
  • Current GDC registration
  • Hepatitis B immunisation required
  • Competence in using dental software systems – Software of Excellence / Exact (training can be provided)
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • High level of confidentiality, accuracy, and professionalism
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
  • Flexible and adaptable to both clinical and reception tasks

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a mixed or fully NHS dental practice
  • First aid or safeguarding training
  • Previous reception or administrative experience in a healthcare setting
