We are looking for an experienced midwife to provide inspirational leadership and management for our Intrapartum Service, based in our Women’s Hospital. This is a fixed-term post for 12 months to provide maternity leave cover. There will be potential for a substantive Band 6 role for external candidates once the secondment is complete, alongside other opportunities that may arise during this time.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be part of our dynamic intrapartum leadership team and able to support the Matron. They will be responsible for managing the clinical front-facing team and the daily operational issues to ensure safe and outstanding care for women in the intrapartum period. This extends from the Delivery Suite and Induction Suite, and includes cross-cover for the Triage and Birth Centre manager. Maintain very close relationships with dependent services at all stages of pregnancy and with our Neonatal Unit, children’s specialty services at our Children’s Hospital, and our Hub and Spoke centres. Outstanding communication skills are required to ensure good working relationships with a wide-ranging multidisciplinary team and families.

Our Maternity Services, based at our Women’s Hospital, is a leading Perinatal Centre and one of the largest centres in the UK. We are the designated Fetal Medicine Centre for the West Midlands and Wales. We care for women and babies with very complex needs who require more than standard maternity care, delivering outstanding care to some of the West Midlands’ sickest babies from 22 weeks gestation. We are host to the West Midlands Human Milk Bank and serve a maternity department delivering approximately 8,000 babies per year.
