Staff Nurse

After a period of preceptorship and development – To supervise and teach junior staff and students, and to take charge of the ward in the absence of senior colleagues

Main duties of the job

Responsible for the delivery of high quality nursing care to patients from 0- 16 years of age, on a busy medical ward.

Person Specification

Experience

• Understanding of professional and current issues in children\’s nursing
• Evidence of supervising and assessing students
• 1 years\’ experience in an acute paediatric setting

Skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Able to work well independently and as part of a team
• Able to think quickly in a rapidly changing acute environment
• Able to plan and prioritise daily workload to ensure high quality and safe care for children and young people
• Basic computer skills
• Planning and organizational skills
• Excellent communication skills Able to communicate effectively in challenging situations
• Demonstrate alignment with the values and beliefs of the Trust
• Demonstrate an understanding of the practices of equality and inclusion
• Understand the importance of effective team working
• Punctual and reliable
• Flexible across hours of work to meet service need including nights and weekends
• Demonstrate conduct and behavioursin keeping with the NMC Code

Qualifications

• RN Child (or RN Adult for PICU/Theatres with specialty specific experience)
• Current NMC Registration
• Evidence of recent and ongoing professional development
• Mentors and assessors course
