Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) Apprenticeship

Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is looking for motivated individuals to join us as Healthcare Support Workers (HCSW) Apprentices. The closing date is 06 November 2025.

This is a fantastic opportunity to kick start your health care career and begin your journey within clinical areas such as surgical & medical wards, paediatrics, maternity and theatres. The role is a front‑line clinical position in which you will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to provide day‑to‑day care for patients, supporting personal care, meals, mobility, housekeeping duties and performing patient observations.

The apprenticeship is delivered in partnership with Walsall College, which will provide support and a comprehensive development plan. Training occurs within your working hours.

You must be able to evidence qualifications; without evidence you will not proceed to interview.

To apply you must:

  • Be over 18
  • Understand care and compassion, with adults or children
  • Have English and Maths GCSEs A‑C / 9‑4 or Functional Skills L2 in Numeracy and Literacy
  • Be a UK resident for three years (an apprenticeship funding requirement)

Main duties of the job

  • Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the working environment.
  • Provide cover for housekeeping workload when required, including cleaning, storing equipment, packing away stocks, making beds and general ward tidying/cleaning.
  • Work within local Trust policies and procedures, living the Trust values.
  • Participate in research activities as appropriate.
  • Act as a positive role model at all times.
  • Participate in performance management and clinical supervision.
