Are you ready to join our dynamic mental health services undergoing exciting and innovative transformation to improve the mental health experience of children and young people in Birmingham? If so, then look no further! We are looking to appoint two full-time Psychiatrists in the East Community Service to provide medical leadership to our Core Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) team. The post has become available due to retirement and existing vacancies within the service. High quality consultant appointments are critical to ensuring senior clinical leadership and providing excellent services. We are looking for engaged and forward-thinking Consultants who can work with us within our core community teams. You will be a qualified consultant Child & Adolescent psychiatrist with full registration with GMC, or within six months of obtaining your specialist registration. Experience of working within an MDT is essential. You will have Approved Clinician status and S12 approval, or be willing to achieve these within three months of appointment. The successful applicant will be employed by Birmingham Women\’s and Children\’s Foundation Trust. Main duties of the job The CAMHS Consultant posts are currently based at Washwood Heath Centre Hub for the East community mental health team. You will have a central role within an MDT context in providing medical leadership, delivering psychiatric assessment and treatment for a caseload of children, adolescents and their families with variable degrees of complexity associated with attachment difficulties, mental health, and neurodevelopmental conditions, as well as contribute to providing psychiatric & medical risk management in the community. On a day-to-day basis, as Consultant psychiatrist, you will be part of the FTB integrated core community Mental Health Services. You will have a close working relationship on clinical matters with multidisciplinary teams and provide important liaison with other doctors in primary and secondary care. You will offer specialist consultation and peer supervision to Senior Mental Health Practitioners within the clinical team including the supervision of junior doctors. Job responsibilities SPECIFIC KEY RESPONSIBILITIES CLINICAL AND MEDICAL LEADERSHIP To hold overall clinical/medical responsibility and review patients at a frequency according to their clinical need and risks. To provide psychiatric leadership to the multidisciplinary teams and clinical leadership in collaboration with the team leaders. The Consultant Psychiatrists responsibilities include treatment planning and regular reviews through outpatient contact or a multidisciplinary care programme approach that comprehensively address patients\’ bio-psychosocial needs. CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT All doctors are expected to devote some time to supporting professional activities, teaching, research, and personal development. There is an expectation that you will remain in good standing for continuing professional development (CPD) with the Royal College of Psychiatrists as part of revalidation. You will make your own local arrangements for Peer Review Group meetings in line with Royal College recommendations on CPD and will develop a Personal Development Plan (PDP) agreed with your Peer Group and Appraiser. The Trust supports CPD activities, including study leave arrangements and associated budget. You are entitled to 30 days over a 3-year period. A robust cover system is in place and is in liaison with other FTB consultants and junior medical staff. Mentoring is available both through line management and other senior managers or clinicians in the Trust. Some staff have coaching training. You will be expected to take responsibility for your continuing medical education within statutory limits. This will include keeping up to date with Trust mandatory and statutory training. Person Specification Meets essential qualification criteria Essential MBBS or equivalent medical qualification. CAMHS CCT holder or equivalent (or within 6 months of becoming eligible for CCT) Current full registration with the GMC (or eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment). GMC Licence to practice MRC Psych (or equivalent) Approval (or eligible for approval) under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act. Desirable An interest to participate in ongoing research projects, especially putting research into practice. A broad range of experience in Child & Adolescent psychiatry and working with multi-disciplinary teams. Experience of working in a community mental health setting. Higher degree or other qualification in research methodology.
