Applications from suitably qualified pathologists are invited for these posts which have become available. Applicants should ideally have received specialist training or have significant experience in Paediatric & Perinatal pathology. However, candidates with a general histopathology background and a willingness to undertake Paediatric pathology will be welcomed. Appropriate support will be given. A part-time post can be considered on agreement.
The Birmingham and Women’s NHS Foundation Trust currently has Histopathology services located on 2 sites; Paediatric pathology being based at Birmingham Children’s hospital and Perinatal pathology being based at Birmingham Women’s hospital.
The Histopathology Department based at the Children’s Hospital site is currently UKAS-accredited and holds a HTA license for the post mortem section. We provide a wide spectrum of specialist diagnostic histopathology services, including Paediatric gastroenterology, dermatology, surgery, hepatology, nephrology, transplant services, oncology and neuro-oncology.
The Post
The post will be split between the Birmingham Women’s Hospital site (Perinatal) and Birmingham Children’s Hospital site (Paediatric Pathology). However, the focus between Paediatric & Perinatal is negotiable. It is a requirement of your employment that you will be prepared to work at any additional or different location owned or served by the trust, either on an on-going or temporary basis, according to the demands of the service.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The post holder will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of Paediatric/ Perinatal diagnostic services to the Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust (BWCFT) and the other Trusts with which BWCFT has contractual arrangements.
