CASBA is an advocacy charity in the south Birmingham area. We make sure the voices of people with disabilities are heard and their rights are accepted. We empower people with disabilities to speak up for themselves or advocate on their behalf when needed.

The role will work to empower citizens to get their voices heard, express their views, make their choices, secure their rights and be valued as citizens. You will support parents with learning disabilities through empowering parenting training and support to improve their lives and the lives of their children. You will work on Pregnancy to Parenthood, which is CASBA's flagship project aimed at keeping families with learning disabilities together.

Much of your role will be working with a colleague advocate who is trained to deliver Mellow Parenting (training will be given) to prepare and deliver training to parents with learning disabilities, throughout pregnancy and then as new parents. You will empower them to develop good parenting skills and to ensure their children receive the appropriate support they need. You will also work with volunteer mentors who support parents weekly to practise the skills you teach them.

Previous experience as a community connector/worker is an advantage. This is highly rewarding and empowering work. As this role focuses on the highly diverse community of Hall Green, participants must be parents with learning disabilities and residents in the constituency. Excellent networks in the community, community languages, contacts and knowledge of Hall Green are essential to this role.
