About The Firm

We are a small, growing law firm seeking a motivated and compassionate Associate Attorney. Our practice focuses primarily on family law, including Domestic Relations, Juvenile Court, and Probate Court, with additional work in Municipal Court.

This position is ideal for a newly licensed attorney or an attorney in the early stages of their career who is interested in developing strong litigation, courtroom, and client-management skills across a variety of practice areas and venues within the State of Alabama.

Our firm provides hands-on experience and an opportunity to work closely with experienced attorneys while taking increasing responsibility for your own cases and clients.

Position Responsibilities

  • Represent clients in family law matters, including divorce, custody, child support, modification, contempt, protections from abuse, juvenile dependency actions, juvenile delinquency actions, probate actions such as adoptions and estate work, as well as municipal court defense.
  • Conduct client consultations and communicate regularly with clients regarding their cases
  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, settlement agreements, correspondence, and other legal documents
  • Conduct legal research and analyze applicable statutes, rules, and case law
  • Prepare for and appear at hearings, mediations, conferences, trials, and other court proceedings
  • Assist with discovery, including drafting and responding to discovery requests
  • Develop case strategies in consultation with supervising attorneys
  • Negotiate with opposing counsel and work toward appropriate resolutions
  • Manage case deadlines, court dates, and client responsibilities
  • Maintain organized and accurate case files
  • Collaborate with paralegals, legal assistants, and other members of the firm
  • Provide professional, responsive, and compassionate service to clients
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all applicable ethical obligations
  • Manage travel to other counties and out of state for hearings or home visits

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree
  • Active license and good standing with the Alabama State Bar, or
  • Applicants who are awaiting results from the July 2026 Alabama Bar Examination may apply, provided they have an active 3L Practice Card with the Alabama State Bar
  • Guardian ad Litem Certificationor applicants willing to obtain Guardian ad Litem Certification
  • Ability to travel to multiple counties within the State of Alabama
  • Strong interest in practicing family law and related areas of litigation
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Strong oral advocacy and communication skills
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines
  • Professional judgment, integrity, and discretion
  • Compassionate and professional approach to working with clients experiencing difficult personal circumstances
  • Ability to work independently while also being receptive to guidance and mentorship
  • Prior family law experience is helpful but not required

We are looking for someone who is eager to learn, hardworking, dependable, and genuinely interested in helping people. The ideal candidate understands that family law and related court work require both strong legal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with clients.

A newly licensed attorney or recent law school graduate who is looking for meaningful courtroom experience and the opportunity to grow within a small firm is encouraged to apply. Applicants awaiting July 2026 Alabama Bar Examination results are also encouraged to apply if they maintain an active 3L Practice Card with the Alabama State Bar.

Candidates with Guardian ad Litem certification or experience serving as a GAL are especially encouraged to apply.
