Senior Lecturer in Public Health (Post Ref: NU2926)

Purpose of Post: The post holder will participate in and contribute to the development, management and delivery of learning and teaching to programmes and modules primarily within the School of Nursing & Allied Health (SoNAH), mainly the Master of Public Health (MPH) programme. Working closely with the Head of Subject, the post holder will provide support to students undertaking the Master of Public Health programme, and work inter‑professionally with colleagues across the School, as well as support undergraduate or CPD programme provision where required. As a member of the academic team, the post holder will assist in the development of the professional, academic, research and scholarly profile of the SoNAH.

Responsibilities

• Planning and delivery of teaching for Public Health undergraduate and postgraduate modules and programmes in line with Birmingham Newman University Learning Teaching and Assessment strategy, Academic Framework and Quality requirements;
• Producing teaching materials that address key education standards to align with the UK Public Health Register and any other relevant professional bodies or standards;
• Making appropriate use of technology to support learning and teaching, e.g., Newman’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE);
• Working in partnership with academic colleagues, their managers, and experts by experience to deliver high quality modules/programmes relevant to the needs of the public;
• Supervising and providing student support and guidance for student learning activities, including acting as an Academic Personal Tutor (ATP);
• Supporting engagement with external public health teams and local authorities and other stakeholders;
• Undertaking marking/assessing assessment tasks, including assignment briefs, providing timely and constructive feedback to students, conducting all assessment activity in line with Newman quality processes;
• Participating in quality assurance procedures, including internal moderation of assignments, liaison with external examiners, monitoring of relevant standards and requirements;
• Attending planning meetings, relevant committees/panels/boards;
• Attending external activities where required, including playing an active role in outreach and course promotion activities;
• Attending examination boards and other meetings relating to student performance;
• Participating in staff appraisal scheme;
• Participating in Continuing Professional Development, including mandatory training courses required by Birmingham Newman University;
• Conducting research and scholarship which may be eligible for inclusion in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercise or similar external research quality validation exercises, appropriate with career stage;
• Disseminating research through appropriate channels, including articles in journals of appropriate standing and national and international conferences;
• Any other duties determined by the Vice‑Chancellor, as necessary to assist the effective operation of the University;
• Ensuring active involvement in the recruitment and selection process of students commensurate with entry requirements;
• Handling restricted information and highly restricted information in accordance with the University’s Information Security Policy;
