We are seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to join our Digital & IT Services Directorate. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting and maintaining the University’s IT infrastructure, ensuring reliable, secure, and high-performing services that underpin teaching, learning, and professional operations. Working as part of a collaborative team, you will contribute to the delivery and continuous improvement of core systems across on-premise and cloud environments, helping to enhance the overall digital experience for staff and students.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain the University’s IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, backups, endpoint security, and Microsoft 365 services
- Support both on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure hosting environments
- Resolve technical issues and escalations from the Service Desk and support teams within agreed SLAs
- Monitor systems proactively, identifying trends and potential issues to prevent service disruption
- Maintain system security through patching, monitoring, and security controls
- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Qualifications
- Proven experience supporting, maintaining, and operating IT infrastructure environments
- Strong working knowledge in at least one of the following areas: Networking (LAN, WAN, Wi‑Fi, cloud connectivity), Infrastructure hosting (virtualisation and cloud platforms such as Azure), Microsoft 365 and collaboration tooling, IT security, monitoring, and endpoint management solutions
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to analyse and resolve complex technical issues
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Customer‑focused approach
- Strong attention to detail
- Proactive mindset, with a focus on continuous improvement
- Willingness to learn and stay up to date with emerging technologies
