Approximately 50% of the course is delivered in university and 50% in placement areas across the trust. The holidays will be fixed throughout the 52-week duration of the course.

The main post holder will be responsible for overseeing academic and practice placements to ensure their completion, working across BCHC and accepting to travel to sites as required.

In practice, you will be supported by dedicated and innovative Health Visiting colleagues who are committed to supporting and developing Student Health Visitors and then welcoming newly qualified Health Visitors into the teams.

You will be required to be a car driver.

Successful completion of the course will lead to registration on Part 3 of the NMC register as a Health Visitor and eligibility to apply for a post within the integrated Health Visiting and Birmingham Forward Steps service, which offers:

  • Access to clinical and safeguarding supervision
  • Access to a 12-month preceptorship programme
  • A continuous programme of in-house professional development
  • A workplace with a strong focus on staff wellbeing
  • Focus on developing clinical leadership skills
  • Future development opportunities for band 7 specialist HV roles e.g., safeguarding, homelessness, strengthening families etc.
  • Access to IT and technology solutions to support agile working

Before commencing training, successful candidates will be asked to sign a BCHC Training Contract that will cover them for the duration of the course and commit them to working within our Health Visiting service for a minimum period of 24 months post-qualification.
