Band 4 Dental Nurse – Oral Surgery/Oral Medicine/Unscheduled Dental Care

Overview

Band 4 Dental Nurse – Oral Surgery/Oral Medicine/Unscheduled Dental Care. 0.4 WTE (15 hours per week). 12 month fixed term maternity cover. Hours to be worked: Monday – Saturday (8am – 8pm) – preferably Tuesday and Wednesday, with flexibility to meet service needs. Based at Birmingham Dental Hospital. Part-time applications are invited. Dental Nurses will be expected to work flexibly across the Dental Hospital and outreach sites (including Mobile Clinics and additional external sites as required).

Responsibilities

  • Provide chair-side assistance to clinicians within the dental service.
  • Carry out clerical and administrative duties to ensure efficient operation of the clinic/department.
  • Prepare and monitor patients for and during their dental treatment, providing pre- and post-operative instructions as required.
  • Undertake the general care of the surgery, including dental equipment/instruments and arrange any necessary repairs as required.
  • Ensure medical emergency drugs and equipment are available and up to date.
  • Provide postoperative instructions during general anaesthetic and exodontia sessions as required.
  • Provide oral health education to patients as required by the clinician.
  • Assist the Senior Dental Nurse in the smooth running of the Dental service.
  • Support and assist clinicians including all student disciplines.
  • Support and supervise all apprentice nurses and undergraduate groups.

Location and Service Context

Based at Birmingham Dental Hospital and Community Dental Services; may include Mobile Clinics and/or additional external sites as required.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Experience as a Dental Nurse and ability to work flexibly across the Dental Hospital and outreach sites.
  • Willingness to work a rota including evenings and Saturdays; flexible to meet service needs.
  • Commitment to high standards of patient care and confidentiality.
  • Good organizational, clerical and communication skills.

Additional Details

  • Involvement in delivering high quality dental care to a wide spectrum of patients across localities within the Dental Service.
  • Role within the team includes supporting and supervising colleagues and student groups.
