The Opportunity

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Fire Engineer to join our Estates and Facilities team. This is a key role within a complex and evolving university estate, offering the chance to play a vital part in maintaining the highest standards of fire safety, compliance, and resilience across our campus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day management of fire safety systems and statutory compliance.
  • Work closely with Health & Safety and Engineering teams to carry out fire risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Provide expert advice on fire-engineered designs, specifications, and installations.
  • Oversee the inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire alarms, suppression systems, sprinklers, fire curtains, and associated equipment.
  • Manage Fire Risk Assessment Action Plans, ensuring timely and effective resolution of identified issues.
  • Support fire safety training and awareness initiatives across the University.

What We’re Looking For

  • A professional qualification in Fire Safety (e.g. NEBOSH National Fire Certificate).
  • Membership of a recognised professional body (e.g. IFE, IFSM).
  • Proven experience working in fire engineering within complex or multi-use environments.
  • Strong knowledge of fire safety legislation, fire hazards, and engineered fire safety solutions.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and report-writing skills.
  • Confident IT skills, particularly within the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical data and clearly communicate risks and implications.
  • A consultative and proactive approach, with the confidence to challenge non-compliance when required.
