Performance Sport Development Officer (Part Time, 18.5 hrs per week) – Birmingham, England. Salary £35,331 to £39,002 per annum.

Role Summary

Support the development and delivery of the BCU Sport and Active 2030 strategy, providing performance support to high-performing student athletes in the scholarship and TASS programmes. Coordinate the planning, promotion and delivery of performance programmes covering strength & conditioning, nutrition, psychology, sport therapy, lifestyle and sports science. Lead recruitment of high-performing student athletes to BCU and oversee the day‑to‑day management of TASS athletes and delivery staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the sport scholar performance programme ensuring scholars receive academic and performance support.
  • Coordinate and oversee the relevant coaches and practitioners daily to maintain high standards in strength & conditioning, nutrition, psychology, sport therapy, lifestyle and sports science.
  • Manage the student volunteer programme in collaboration with sport academic lecturers to offer volunteering opportunities in sport therapy, nutrition, strength & conditioning and sport science.
  • Coordinate the TASS delivery, including recruitment, management and coordination of the multidisciplinary team of practitioners.
  • Work with TASS staff to support programme needs and provide various reports and feedback.
  • Ensure all delivery aligns with best practice regarding health & safety, GDPR and safeguarding.
  • Manage sport coaches for performance sport teams, liaising on programme needs and facilitating them.
  • Oversee ongoing recruitment of high-performing student athletes into BCU.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience managing a high‑performance programme within a higher education setting.
  • Experience working with high-performing student athletes in a university environment.
  • Understanding of performance support needs for elite athletes across relevant disciplines.
  • Knowledge of higher education recruitment processes, procedures, timelines and challenges.
  • Experience working with national governing bodies and high‑performance sports organisations.
  • Experience leading a TASS programme and supporting its delivery within a HE environment.
  • Experience recruiting and managing performance support staff across disciplines.
  • Valid UK driving licence.
  • Degree in a sport‑related discipline.

Desirable Requirements

  • Awareness of current trends in university and performance sport.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, health & safety and risk management in a student sport setting.
  • Experience in cross‑departmental programme development within a large organisation.
  • Hold a TASS recognised TALS qualification.
