We are seeking a Senior Lecturer in Diagnostic Imaging Reporting (plain film, CT Head, or MRI) to join the Department of Health and Life Sciences as part of our Diagnostic Imaging Team, working at the forefront of radiography education and workforce development nationally and supporting the delivery of high-quality services across the University. In this role, you will drive the development and expansion of reporting radiography education at the university.

Working as a central member of the Midlands Imaging Training Academy (MITA) collaboration, you will help shape and deliver postgraduate reporting radiography provision, in the modalities of either plain film, CT Head, or MRI. Key responsibilities are focused on teaching, assessment, and clinical education, working with a diverse multiprofessional learner group that includes radiology registrars, postgraduate radiographers, and other healthcare professionals.

In addition to delivering reporting training, you will have opportunities to work across other modules dependent upon your experience and expertise including opportunities to support the undergraduate radiography portfolio. The successful candidate will work closely with MITA partners to develop, deliver, and evaluate training programmes that improve reporting radiography services and education including leading and contributing to projects funded through MITA, managing deliverables, developing research or training proposals, and reporting on outcomes to ensure services are efficient, compliant, and aligned to University priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Representing BCU at key stakeholder meetings, regional forums, and national events related to radiographer reporting education, advanced clinical practice and workforce development.
  • Establish and strengthen relationships with NHS Trusts, private sector providers, and professional bodies.
  • Work as an active contributor to MITA-funded projects, supporting the development and delivery of reporting radiography training across the West Midlands and at a national level.
  • Deliver high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment across the BSc and MSc Diagnostic Imaging courses, with a specific focus on reporting radiography and advanced clinical practice.
  • Teach and assess using our dedicated reporting facilities, providing learners with an experience that closely mirrors professional clinical practice.
  • Lead teaching in Plain film, MRI or CT reporting, in line with your clinical specialism and experience.
  • Deliver education to a multiprofessional learner group, including radiology registrars, postgraduate radiographers, and other healthcare professionals undertaking advanced practice development.
  • Take a leading role in developing and delivering innovative teaching methods, drawing on simulation, digital learning technologies, and a range of pedagogical approaches.
  • Conduct and oversee formal assessments of reporting radiographers, Radiology Registrars and relevant health care professionals, ensuring alignment with national standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide academic leadership, personal tutoring, and mentorship to students, supporting their progression, clinical competency, and professional development.
  • Engage in interprofessional applied research focused on reporting radiography, simulation-based education, and clinical workforce innovation.
  • Support bids for research or enterprise funding and contribute to the wider scholarly activity of the School.
  • Contribute to student recruitment and public engagement activities.
  • Supervise undergraduate and post graduate student research projects and support academic and clinical placement development for students and clinical partners.

Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field, or significant and demonstrable progress towards completion. Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Post‑registration clinical expertise in reporting radiography, with experience in plain film and/or cross‑sectional imaging. Demonstrable experience of teaching, assessment, or clinical supervision in higher education, clinical, or professional education settings. Evidence of ongoing post‑registration professional development in reporting radiography and advanced clinical practice. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of learners and professional stakeholders. Ability to plan, prioritise, and manage own workload independently. Experience of using Carestream PACS or equivalent radiology information systems in a clinical or educational setting. Experience of delivering education or training to Radiology Registrars or other medical and healthcare professionals. Working towards or holding a Master’s or Doctoral qualification. Experience of leading curriculum development or programme review in higher education. Experience of securing or contributing to research or enterprise funding bids. Involvement with professional bodies, national committees, or peer‑reviewed publication in a relevant field. Experience of establishing or sustaining external partnerships with NHS, private sector, or professional organisations.
