This vacancy is only open to Birmingham City University graduates from the academic year 2024/25. To be eligible, you must have completed your course between 1 August 2024 and 31 July 2025, and you must no longer be studying.

The Student Induction and Community Assistant provides administrative support for the university’s welcome, induction, and student community activities, helping to enhance students’ sense of belonging and strengthen the wider BCU community. The role involves supporting the planning, organisation, and communication of student-focused events in collaboration with colleagues and the Students’ Union, including tasks such as:

  • Room bookings
  • Preparing materials
  • Maintaining schedules and records
  • Assisting with event logistics like setup and registration

The postholder also manages communications with stakeholders, monitors shared inboxes, processes orders and tracks expenditure, supports promotional content creation and digital uploads, gathers feedback for event evaluation, maintains process documentation, and undertakes general administrative duties, while also contributing to key university events such as enrolment, graduation, open days, and clearing.

The ideal candidate will have experience providing administrative support within a busy team environment, with strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively to meet deadlines. They will demonstrate excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accuracy in their work, alongside proficiency in Microsoft Office or equivalent tools. Strong communication skills are essential, with the ability to engage confidently with a wide range of people, and the flexibility to adapt to changing demands and priorities. A willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends during peak induction periods is also required. Desirably, candidates will have experience working in a higher education or similar setting, along with an awareness of student experience and student engagement activities.

The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to enter the LGPS scheme will be able to do so and will be employed by Birmingham City University directly.
