About Birmingham City University

At Birmingham City University, we are a diverse and inclusive learning community of over 31,400 students from more than 120 countries. We aim to become an exemplar anchor institution, creating and sharing knowledge for a better and more inclusive society. We are committed to providing a transformational educational experience, supporting world-class research, and fostering a collaborative and supportive working environment for our staff.

Recognised as one of the UK’s Top 250 employers (Financial Times & Statista), we pride ourselves on being a place where colleagues feel valued, supported, and able to grow their careers while contributing to the success of our students and communities.

Our student demographic reflects the rich cultural and ethnic diversity of Birmingham itself, with a significant proportion of students from minoritised ethnic backgrounds and the majority of our home students coming from the West Midlands. This diversity is a strength, and it calls for a workforce that is equipped to challenge deficit narratives and thinking — those assumptions that position students from underrepresented groups as lacking rather than recognising their assets, strengths and potential.

By embracing this perspective, we aim to create an environment where all students and colleagues can thrive, and where our work contributes positively to the social, cultural and economic life of Birmingham and beyond.

Role Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative CRM Officer to join our ambitious CRM team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who loves combining creativity with data, has a sharp eye for detail, and understands how to engage diverse audiences - particularly the highly competitive 17–24-year-old market.

You’ll play a key role in shaping impactful communications that influence prospective students at critical decision‑making points of the cycle, helping the University achieve its recruitment and engagement goals. You will deliver engaging, data‑led CRM campaigns that support applications, offer acceptances, and wider University objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery and ongoing success of the University’s CRM strategy through high‑quality, engaging campaigns.
  • Create and refine compelling CRM content that tells a clear story and resonates with target audiences.
  • Monitor and analyse campaign performance, using insight to identify opportunities for improvement and optimisation.
  • Work collaboratively across departmental teams to plan and deliver a cohesive cycle of communications.
  • Interpret data to understand how CRM activity contributes to wider goals such as driving applications and offer acceptances.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant data within the CRM system, ensuring data is collected, segmented, and stored correctly.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve data and performance issues within the CRM database.
  • Track, analyse, and report on campaign effectiveness through email performance metrics.
  • Ensure GDPR compliance when handling high volumes of personal data.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent experience in PR, web, marketing or communications.
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development
  • Knowledge of CRM applications.
  • The ability to produce focused, targeted, effective and compelling content.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate both non-technical and technical.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience of HTML coding would be an advantage
  • Producing strong written content for a range of audiences and channels.
  • Experience of CRM and digital trends within the Higher Education sector and commercial sector would be an advantage.
