Birmingham City University (BCU) is a dynamic, forward-thinking institution at the heart of a vibrant city. As a STEAM-powered Civic University, we are committed to delivering transformative education and impactful research that contributes to inclusive economic and social development. As part of our Strategy 2030, we are now seeking an Academic Director of Partnerships and STEAM.
This is a pivotal academic leadership position designed to drive excellence in STEAM-based innovation and collaborative education. Reporting to senior leadership and working closely with the PVC Research, Enterprise, Engagement and STEAM (PVC REES), the PVC Education, and the PVC Academic, you will lead the operational delivery and measurable impact of our STEAM strategy.
Key responsibilities include:
- Strategically lead BCU’s home academic partnerships, ensuring alignment with both the STEAM agenda and the University’s student recruitment strategy.
- Drive interdisciplinary teaching and learning to create confident, broadly skilled graduates equipped for today’s complex challenges.
- Improve student experience and graduate outcomes by embedding interdisciplinary and practice-based learning through STEAM, in partnership with the PVC Education.
- Lead and expand employer engagement, knowledge exchange, and work-integrated learning across the institution.
- Champion Innovation Fest, establishing it as a flagship regional and international initiative that showcases student talent and catalyses collaboration with industry, enterprise, and community stakeholders.

- Providing leadership in delivering academic partnerships and engagement, with a strong track record of developing successful education-industry collaborations
- Delivering excellent academic results.
- Understanding of interdisciplinary learning, particularly STEAM.
- Leading successful collaborative initiatives that bridge academia, industry, and society.
You will also bring a deep understanding of the power of STEAM to foster innovation, inclusivity, and real-world impact.
