With an incredible history dating back to 1875, Birmingham City Football Club is part of an exciting period of accelerated growth and modernisation, playing its part in a once-in-a-generation opportunity to support the transformation of England's second city as part of the Sports Quarter project. With significant investment across our football, commercial, and community operations, we are rebuilding the Club for long-term success — on and off the pitch.
The journey we're on involves strengthening our structures, elevating our performance environments, growing our teams, and investing heavily in the people, processes and culture that will define the next chapter of Birmingham City FC.
Birmingham City Football Club is entering a period of significant growth and transformation. As we strengthen our Marketing & Brand function and continue to build a modern, insight-led and high-performing operation, we are seeking a marketing leader to play a key role in shaping how the Club connects with fans, partners and communities across the season.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior Marketing Planning & Campaigns Manager to play a pivotal leadership role within Birmingham City’s Marketing & Brand team. This role is responsible for turning the Club’s brand and commercial strategy into a clear, coordinated and high-impact marketing plan across the season. You’ll own strategic marketing planning, campaign orchestration and operational excellence across our marketing calendar – ensuring campaigns are insight-led, well-sequenced and deliver against fan engagement, brand growth and revenue objectives.
Working closely with teams across digital, brand, retail, partnerships, ticketing, the women’s team and Foundation, you’ll act as the central integrator of marketing activity – bringing clarity, discipline and momentum to how Birmingham City FC shows up throughout the season. This is not a delivery-only role. It requires strong strategic judgement, operational rigour and the confidence to lead cross-functionally in a fast-paced, high-profile environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Marketing Planning - Own the end-to-end marketing planning process, building and maintaining an integrated seasonal and annual marketing calendar aligned to club priorities. Translate club strategy, brand direction and commercial objectives into clear campaign plans with defined goals, audiences, messaging and KPIs. Balance short-term priorities with long-term brand building.
- Campaign Leadership & Operations - Lead the planning and delivery of integrated campaigns across key moments including fixtures, retail launches, membership, women’s football, Foundation initiatives and partner activations. Act as the central point of coordination across internal teams to ensure campaigns land consistently, on time and to a high standard. Own campaign governance, including timelines, approvals, dependencies and post-campaign evaluation.
- Insight-Led Decision Making - Work closely with CRM & Insights teams to ensure campaigns are driven by data, fan insight and performance learning. Define success metrics upfront and ensure learnings inform future planning and optimisation. Use insight to challenge assumptions and continuously improve effectiveness.
- Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management - Line-manage the Marketing Campaigns Executive, providing clear direction, prioritisation and development. Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across the club. Confidently present plans, priorities and performance updates to leadership.
About You
Experience - Significant experience in a senior marketing planning or campaign management role, ideally within sport, entertainment, media, retail or consumer brands. Proven track record of leading integrated, multi-channel campaigns with clear commercial and brand outcomes. Experience operating within complex, fast-moving organisations with multiple stakeholders.
Skills & Attributes - Strong strategic thinker with excellent planning and organisational skills. Data-literate, with the ability to use insight and performance metrics to guide decisions. Confident communicator who can influence without formal authority. Calm, collaborative and resilient, with a passion for sport, culture and building purposeful brands.
