About the Role
- Oversee football media relations at the Football Club, facilitating requests relating to external media partners, documentary production and contracted appearances.
- Ensure the Club is conducting itself as a “Premier League” organisation, adhering to media obligations, appearances and deadlines.
- Manage an ever-evolving media communications schedule including player appearances and media obligations with First Team involvement.
- Attend all Men’s First Team fixtures, assuming the role as a point of contact for media stakeholders and opposition staff.
- Develop a strong working relationship with senior football staff, in particular the Director of Football and First Team Manager to ensure club messaging is aligned.
- Manage the matchday media operation at St.
Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park, including access, accreditation, press liaison, press lounge operation and broadcast compliance with the match manager where applicable.
- Manage the media list, and lead on the organisation and communication of press conferences, ad-hoc interview requests and press releases.
- Assist the Content team to arrange photoshoots and capture sessions at appropriate times in the season.
- Oversee player press appearances, interviews and press conferences, and providing club representatives with press briefings to ensure key messaging is aligned.
- Assist the Head of Communications with the ongoing design and implementation of the Club’s overall communications strategy with measurable targets to ensure the organisation’s aims are met.
- Collaborate with the social media team to deliver KPI’s relating to the clubs naming rights deal.
- Support on media monitoring, flagging any potential issues before they become public and developing strategies to tackle them.
- To be on call at all times to deal with fast-developing situations in the media spotlight and assist with crisis management
- Acting as a point of contact for football related media enquiries, drafting quotes, statements and responses.
- Working closely with the governing bodies and its sponsors and rights holders to fulfil all contractual obligations and avoid penalties from the EFL/PL governance department.
- Build and maintain relationships with key local, national, football and non-football media personnel with the aim increasing the Club’s standing in the cultural conversation.
- Help to build and develop the bridge between the first team, management and administration staff, with stadium staff, in particular the commercial and the partnerships team.
- Protect and enhance the reputation of the Club, staff and players through the delivery, implementation and measurement of a pro-active plan.
- About the person
- Extensive experience of front-line media handling in a football/sports environment.
- Experience of managing press relations in a match day environment
- Proven extensive communication, advocacy and influencing skills, including an ability to effectively to present complex messages at the highest levels in a range of formats.
- Experience and understanding of delivering across a variety of digital and other channels.
- Extensive experience of face-to-face media management, interacting with the media, manager, coaching staff, players and other parties to deliver the organisations message.
- Experience of delivering across a range of internal and external stakeholders, and able to build coalitions of support.
- Experience of dealing with fast moving events including crisis operation.
- A strong working knowledge of digital and social media.
- Proven PR experience with an extensive knowledge of consumer, corporate and sports media.
- Trusted relationships with national and international print and broadcast media.
- The ability to create, develop and maintain positive working relationships with sports professionals and senior executives.
- Flexible approach to work (irregular hours and extensive travel).
- Calmness under pressure.
- A natural leader with the ability to engage and inspire those they work with.
