Birmingham City Football Club is on the rise. With an incredible history dating back to 1875, Birmingham City Football Club is part of an exciting period of accelerated growth and modernisation, and is playing its part in a once-in-a-generation opportunity to support the transformation of England’s second city as part of the Sports Quarter project. With significant investment across our football, commercial, and community operations, we are rebuilding the Club for long-term success — on and off the pitch. The journey we’re on involves strengthening our structures, elevating our performance environments, growing our teams, and investing heavily in the people, processes and culture that will define the next chapter of Birmingham City FC.
We are now looking for a Club Photography Lead to join our Marketing, Media & Brand department and play a key role in shaping how Birmingham City is seen across the world. This is a unique opportunity for a talented visual storyteller to lead the Club’s photography output across our Men’s, Women’s and Academy teams, capturing the moments, emotion and culture that define Birmingham City Football Club.
About the Department
The Marketing, Media & Brand department is responsible for driving the Club’s identity, storytelling and supporter engagement across all platforms. Working at the heart of the Club’s creative operation, the department delivers innovative campaigns, engaging content and world-class production that connects supporters to Birmingham City both locally and globally. As the Club continues to evolve, we are focused on creating bold, modern and culturally relevant content that reflects the ambition and identity of Birmingham City Football Club.
About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Content & Production, the Club Photography Lead will oversee and deliver high-quality photography across all areas of the football club. You will be responsible for capturing elite-level imagery across matches, training, player shoots, Club events, commercial campaigns and behind-the-scenes environments, helping to tell the story of Birmingham City through powerful and engaging visuals. The successful candidate will attend all Men’s First Team fixtures, both home and away, while also ensuring consistent, high-quality coverage across the Women’s, U21s and U18s programmes. Working closely with the Brand Lead, Design Team and wider media and communications departments, you will help shape the visual identity of the Club across digital, social, print and commercial platforms.
The role will also involve:
- Managing and maintaining the Club’s photography archive within ScorePlay.
- Editing and delivering imagery to tight deadlines across multiple departments.
- Building and coordinating a trusted network of freelance photographers and emerging talent.
- Supporting creative campaign shoots and branded content production.
- Staying ahead of trends across photography, football culture, fashion, music and wider creative industries.
This is a fast-paced and exciting role suited to someone who thrives under pressure, has exceptional creative instincts and is passionate about visual storytelling in elite sport.
About the Person
We are looking for an experienced and highly creative photographer with a strong eye for storytelling, detail and culture. The ideal candidate will have:
- A minimum of 3 years’ professional photography experience, ideally within sport, events or live environments.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating creative and high-quality photographic work.
- Advanced knowledge of professional camera equipment and Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and Lightroom.
- Excellent understanding of lighting, composition and post-production techniques.
- Outstanding organisational and time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive working relationships across all areas of the Club.
- A proactive, flexible and self-motivated approach to work.
- A passion for football and an understanding of the importance of storytelling within modern sport.
- A bachelor’s degree in Photography, Visual Arts or a related discipline would be advantageous but is not essential.
The successful candidate must always represent the Club professionally and maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and conduct.
