Reports to: Lead Local Scout

Birmingham City Football Club is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Local Scout to support the identification and recruitment of emerging talent across a 90-minute radius of the Knighthead Performance Centre (B38 9EL). Working within the Academy’s Emerging Talent department, this role is essential in uncovering and supporting the next generation of players.

You’ll play a vital role within a dedicated scouting team, building key relationships across grassroots clubs, schools, coaching organisations and local football networks to identify players with the potential to join our Academy programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and monitor emerging talent within your assigned region across all development phases.
  • Attend grassroots, school, and private coaching fixtures—predominantly on weekends—to observe and report on high-potential players.
  • Submit detailed, timely player reports and contribute to the decision-making process on player signings.
  • Support Talent ID initiatives including open days, trial events and festivals hosted by the Emerging Talent department.
  • Build and maintain strong links with local football organisations and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to ongoing player tracking and succession planning based on Club needs and development strategy.
  • Work in alignment with the Club’s Code of Conduct and ensure compliance with EPPP, FA, and Youth Development regulations.
  • Support the accurate completion of all administrative documentation, safeguarding forms and scouting records.
  • Participate in CPD and ongoing training, engaging fully with the Club’s competency framework and appraisal processes.

Who We’re Looking For in You;

You’ll have a keen eye for identifying potential and the desire to play a vital role in a player’s early football journey. This is a people-facing role that requires communication, insight, and reliability.

  • FA Level 1 in Talent Identification.
  • FA Safeguarding certification.
  • Valid UK Driving Licence.
  • Strong observational, organisational and communication skills.
  • Availability on weekends and flexibility around fixture schedules.
  • A team player with integrity, professionalism, and a passion for talent development.
  • FA Level 2 in Talent Identification.
  • Previous scouting or coaching experience within academy or grassroots football.
  • Understanding of the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) structure.
