Birmingham City Football Club is on the rise. With an incredible history dating back to 1875, Birmingham City Football Club is part of an exciting period of accelerated growth and modernisation, and is playing its part in a once-in-a-generation opportunity to support the transformation of England’s second city as part of the Sports Quarter project. With significant investment across our football, commercial, and community operations, we are rebuilding the Club for long‑term success — on and off the pitch. The journey we’re on involves strengthening our structures, elevating our performance environments, growing our teams, and investing heavily in the people, processes and culture that will define the next chapter of Birmingham City FC.

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail‑oriented Physical Performance Coach to join our Men’s First Team environment. This role will play a key part in delivering a comprehensive, high‑performance programme, supporting player development, performance optimisation, and injury mitigation. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will contribute to the planning, delivery, and monitoring of both gym and field‑based physical performance strategies.

About the Role

  • Contribute to the design and delivery of individualised gym‑based programmes, including pre‑training preparation, strength, and power sessions
  • Support the delivery, monitoring, and adjustment of field‑based conditioning sessions aligned to individual player profiles and training load data
  • Deliver pre‑training preparation sessions to optimise training performance
  • Contribute to recovery strategies using evidence‑based approaches
  • Assist with physical testing, monitoring and data collection for first‑team and rehab players
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date performance data records
  • Support the design and delivery of rehab and return‑to‑play conditioning programmes
  • Assist with training load monitoring, profiling and data analysis
  • Communicate performance insights effectively to the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Support matchday preparation and on‑field conditioning sessions where required

What we’re looking for in you:

  • Undergraduate degree in Sports Science, Strength & Conditioning, or a related field
  • Proven experience within a physical performance or elite sport environment
  • Strong understanding of strength & conditioning principles in professional football
  • Experience using performance technology (GPS, internal load monitoring, VBT, force platforms)
  • High attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and ability to work collaboratively
  • Proactive mindset with a commitment to high professional standards
  • UKSCA or CASES accreditation
  • MSc (or higher) in Sports Science or a related discipline
  • Experience using data visualisation tools (e.g. Tableau)
