Birmingham City Football Club is looking for a passionate and experienced Groundskeeper to join our Groundskeeping team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to build on their career in sports turf management and horticulture within a professional football environment.

The Grounds team plays a critical role in ensuring that the Club’s playing surfaces meet the highest professional standards. Responsible for the maintenance and preparation of the pitches and surrounding areas, the department works closely with football operations, coaching staff and external contractors to ensure surfaces are match‑ready for fixtures across the Club.

About the Role:

  • Working alongside experienced grounds staff, you will receive hands‑on training and development, learning the skills required to maintain high‑quality playing and training surfaces used by our First Team, Academy, and Community programmes.
  • Learn and develop skills in mowing, marking out, divotting, fertilising and general pitch maintenance.
  • Assist with the upkeep and maintenance of the Club's training pitches, agility areas and landscaped grounds at Wast Hills Training Ground.
  • Support the maintenance of the site's 3G artificial pitch and indoor playing surface.
  • Assist with preparing pitches and surrounding areas for training sessions and fixtures.
  • Help maintain landscaped areas including trees, shrubs, flowers and banks.
  • Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment and machinery under supervision and training.
  • Attend relevant training courses and qualifications as required by the Club.
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety procedures and Club policies at all times.

About You:

  • Has a genuine passion for horticulture, sports turf, and outdoor work.
  • Is willing to study towards an NVQ Level 1 Diploma in Work‑Based Horticulture/Sports Turf or equivalent qualifications.
  • Has a positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Enjoys working as part of a team and takes pride in maintaining high standards.
  • Is physically capable of carrying out manual tasks and operating groundskeeping equipment.
  • Can work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication, organisation and time management skills.
  • Is flexible and able to meet the demands of a professional football environment.
  • Previous experience working with sports turf or grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of groundskeeping machinery and equipment.
  • Understanding of herbicides, pesticides and turf management practices.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills.
