Working 36.5 hours per week Senior Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) – Full‑time, Citywide. As part of Birmingham’s AMHP Hub, you will deliver statutory Mental Health Act duties citywide, mentor future AMHPs, and work with partners to make timely, rights‑focused decisions for people in crisis.
About the Role
- Daytime service 08:45–17:15 Monday to Thursday, 08:45–16:15 Friday, with occasional flexibility.
- Operate across the city daily, respond flexibly, undertake travel to consider requests, work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, safeguard individuals, uphold their rights, contribute to a learning environment, and support the development of future AMHP candidates.
Responsibilities
- Operate across Birmingham daily, responding flexibly to service needs.
- Undertake regular out‑of‑area travel to consider requests under the Mental Health Act.
- Work collaboratively with multi‑disciplinary teams to safeguard individuals and uphold their rights.
- Make timely, rights‑focused decisions for people in crisis.
- Contribute to an active learning environment that encourages peer support among AMHPs and supports the development of future AMHP candidates.
- Participate in practice mentoring and assessing AMHP candidates, completing direct observations, reports, and meeting agreed deadlines.
- Help resolve issues that may arise during placements and provide general contributions to the AMHP course where needed.
- Engage in peer observations and supervision to actively contribute to a collaborative learning environment.
Qualifications
- Essential: Qualified Social Worker (or other professional with AMHP status), valid AMHP warrant, experience handling complex requests under the Mental Health Act 1983, ability to work autonomously, strong understanding of relevant legislation, including case law.
- Ideal: Ability to drive and access a vehicle (with business insurance).
