We are a dynamic local authority dedicated to delivering exceptional services to our community. Our function is at the forefront of innovation and efficiency, and we are seeking a Senior Application Support Engineer to join one of our Technical Application Support Teams.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Application Support Engineer with strong IT support expertise and in‑depth knowledge of Redwood RunMyJobs and integrations. You will be a senior member of a specialist team responsible for the implementation, ongoing support, optimisation and future development of Birmingham’s primary enterprise scheduling and automation platform. This is a business‑critical application, responsible for executing and orchestrating a high volume of automated processes and file transfers across the organisation that a number of business critical applications depend on. The role carries significant responsibility for ensuring service stability, performance, resilience, and continuous improvement of the scheduling environment.
We Are Looking For Candidates Who Can Demonstrate:
- Experience supporting enterprise scheduling, workload automation, or other business‑critical applications within a large, complex environment.
- Strong hands‑on experience with Redwood RunMyJobs or similar enterprise scheduling and automation tools, including job design, workflows, calendars, dependencies, and monitoring.
- Excellent IT and application support skills, with experience supporting production systems, managing interfaces and integrations, analysing logs and resolving issues in a live operational environment.
- Highly effective communication with the ability to engage, influence, and build strong relationships with technical teams, senior stakeholders, and external suppliers.
- Experience monitoring system performance, scheduling workloads, integrations and job executions to maintain high availability, data integrity and adherence to agreed service standards and SLAs.
- Experience managing and supporting integrations between systems including batch processing.
- Knowledge and expertise in programming languages such as Python, YAML or Redwood scripting as well as tools such as Ansible.
In return, you will join a large-scale, technically complex environment where your work directly supports critical services across the city. You will have the opportunity to influence how services are delivered, contribute to system and process improvements, and play a key role in maintaining and evolving our application estate. This is a role for someone who is comfortable operating at a senior level within application support, with the technical capability and experience to take ownership of systems and drive service quality.
