Public Health Programme Officer – Smoking Cessation (Maternity Cover)

Fixed Term Contract – 12 months

Grade C – £35,412 – £41,771

Consultation grade – subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 36.5 hours per week

Birmingham City Council is seeking a motivated Public Health Officer to support delivery of the Smoking Cessation programme within the Adults Public Health Division. The role contributes to reducing health inequalities by commissioning effective stop smoking services, promoting tobacco harm reduction, preventing smoking uptake among young people, and using data to drive early intervention and behaviour change.

You will support the Senior Programme Officer and Service Lead to manage smoking cessation contracts and deliver key elements of the Smokefree Generation agenda. Working with NHS partners, community organisations and commissioned providers, you will help strengthen local services and shape Birmingham’s approach to reducing smoking prevalence.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor a portfolio of local smoking cessation contracts
  • Work collaboratively with NHS colleagues, community partners and specialist service providers
  • Support commissioning and service improvement activity
  • Contribute to innovative smokefree and stop smoking initiatives
  • Analyse data to inform decision making and service design
  • Support equality impact work, project updates, and formal reporting
  • Assist with the development of new resources, tools and evidence for tobacco control
  • Coordinate meetings, workshops, and events

This is a hybrid role based in Birmingham, and you will be required to attend the office twice a week, so you must have the correct right-to-work documents to work in the UK. Sadly, we do not support those who require sponsorship.
