Birmingham City Council's legal service is unique and one of the largest in‑house local authority legal teams. The team covers all areas of work that the Council undertakes, and the role provides a challenging yet rewarding experience.
As a Legal Clerk in the newly formed fixed‑term Housing Disrepair Legal Team you will support paralegals and lawyers on large‑volume cases, progressing matters in line with court orders and directions.
Key responsibilities:- Produce accurate, comprehensive and up‑to‑date legal documentation and court bundles under direction and to tight deadlines.
- Open new legal case files using the case management system, including setting up initial documentation and completing acknowledgements.
- Close files on the case management system, prepare paper files for off‑site storage and update team spreadsheets with case outcomes.
- Process and respond to routine communication received by post, telephone or email, taking messages, copying, scanning and distributing information as necessary.
- Operate legal procedures including authentication and sealing of documents, produce case management reports and assist with routine processes such as processing invoices.
- 30 days annual leave – increases to 33 days after 5 years and 35 days after 10 years, plus option to purchase additional leave.
