We’re seeking a strategic, forward‑thinking professional to lead our Fleet, Plant & Assets service within the Street Scene Division. In this influential role, you will shape and deliver a long‑term fleet strategy that underpins the Council’s operational needs and environmental ambitions. You’ll bring strong commercial insight, technical expertise, and strategic vision to ensure our fleet is safe, compliant, reliable, and future‑ready.
Key Qualifications
- A degree or professional qualification in fleet management, logistics, engineering, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in fleet and asset operations, including procurement, compliance, and performance management.
- Evidence of successful strategic planning and budget management in a complex environment.
- Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to negotiate, influence, and deliver value.
- Ability to lead complex projects and navigate regulatory frameworks with confidence.
- A commitment to sustainability, innovation, and continuous improvement in fleet operations.
Role Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fleet strategy covering capital acquisition, asset lifecycle management, and maintenance.
- Ensure full compliance with traffic regulations and maintain the Council’s operator’s licence.
- Lead strategic fleet procurement to support long‑term sustainability and operational efficiency.
- Manage capital budgets for fleet replacement and spearhead innovation in low‑carbon and alternative fuel technologies.
- Establish performance metrics to evaluate procurement, maintenance, and operational effectiveness.
- Oversee robust maintenance schedules that ensure full regulatory compliance and maximise fleet availability.
- Build strong relationships with internal teams, suppliers, regulators, and industry partners.
- Monitor and manage all fleet‑related budgets, ensuring cost‑effective and value‑driven decision making.
