Higher Level Teaching Assistant - Total Communication Tutor - Specialising in British Sign Language (BSL)

Permanent

Grade: Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 36.5 hours per week

Are you passionate about empowering deaf children and young people through communication and language development? Do you share our commitment to promoting inclusion, access, and achievement for deaf learners and their families across educational settings and family homes?

We are looking for a Total Communication Tutor to work with deaf children and young people, their families, and educational settings across Birmingham. The role focuses on delivering British Sign Language (BSL) instruction, promoting Total Communication approaches, and supporting access to learning and inclusion.

We seek an enthusiastic, committed, and highly motivated professional to join our vibrant and supportive team. The successful applicant will need to be flexible and creative to meet a wide range of communication needs in both family homes and educational settings.

You will be part of the Sensory and Physical Support Team, working alongside Teachers of the Deaf and Specialist Teaching Assistants.

We are committed to safeguarding all children and young people. Any offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure, two satisfactory references, and successful completion of pre-employment vetting procedures.
