A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for passionate and enthusiastic individuals to join Birmingham City Council’s Transport Planning Service and play a key role in shaping the future of transport in the city. Birmingham is seeing billions of pounds of investment in major developments and strategic infrastructure across the West Midlands. At the same time, the Council is working at pace to deliver the ambitious Birmingham Transport Plan, transforming the city’s transport system to support inclusive growth, reduce carbon emissions, and adapt to climate change.
As a Transport Planner, you will contribute to the development and delivery of transport policy, strategy, programmes, and projects that support sustainable movement across the city. The role offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of initiatives, from local schemes to city-scale programmes, working with local partners, schools, and community groups to support safer, healthier and more sustainable journeys.
Our ideal candidates will have some experience (paid or voluntary) in transport planning or a related field and a strong interest in sustainable transport and place-based planning. You may have an undergraduate degree in a subject such as Geography, Environmental Science, Spatial Planning, Civil Engineering, Public Health, or Education, or equivalent skills and experience gained elsewhere.
We are looking for talented individuals to contribute to specialist sub-teams with areas of focus including school travel planning, road harm reduction, improving air quality and improving sustainable travel – come and join the team supporting people on this journey!
