Location: Citywide (with out-of-area travel as required)
We are seeking Specialist Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs) to join our dynamic citywide team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a service that delivers statutory duties nationally, ensuring the highest standards of care and compliance under the Mental Health Act 1983.
Twilight shift contribution: Your role during the twilight hours (11:00 AM – 7:00 PM) is integral to the delivery of our 24-hour AMHP service. By covering this critical period, you will help ensure continuity of care, timely assessments, and responsive decision-making for individuals in crisis. It also allows the Emergency Duty Team (EDT) to focus exclusively on emergencies overnight, creating a seamless and responsive service that prioritises safety, rights, and well-being.
About the Role
As part of our team, you will:
- Operate across the city daily, responding flexibly to service needs.
- Undertake regular out-of-area travel to consider requests under the Mental Health Act.
- Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams to safeguard individuals and uphold their rights.
- Make timely, rights-focused decisions for people in crisis.
- Contribute to an active learning environment that encourages peer support among AMHPs and supports the development of future AMHP candidates.
You will play a key role in shaping the next generation of AMHPs by:
- Participating in practice mentoring and assessing AMHP candidates, including:
- Completing direct observations, reports, and meeting agreed deadlines.
- Helping to resolve issues that may arise during placements.
- Providing a general contribution to the AMHP course where needed.
- Engaging in peer observations and supervision to actively contribute to a collaborative learning environment.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Qualified Social Worker (or other professional with AMHP status)
- Valid AMHP warrant
- Experience handling complex requests under the Mental Health Act 1983
- Ability and confidence to work autonomously
- Strong understanding of relevant legislation, including case law
Ideal:
- Ability to drive with access to a vehicle (with business insurance)
