The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled individual with a background in health psychology or behaviour change to join the largest local authority in the country to make a real difference to the health and wellbeing of Birmingham citizens.
The Role
We are looking for a Senior Officer in Behavioural Science with substantial experience of applying behavioural science/health psychology within public health. The role is based within the Behavioural Science Team but will work across the Public Health Division through a matrix working approach. The role involves driving forward a behavioural science approach by optimising behavioural science across public health and corporate priorities with a focus on building cultural competence. This will include designing, developing, and evaluating interventions ensuring they have an evidence basis and can demonstrate impact through behaviour change. Using your knowledge of behaviour change and health psychology is key within the role.
You will ensure you support the team’s objectives by ensuring all behavioural science approaches are underpinned by health literacy. Your role will include working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders whilst educating and upskilling them through behavioural science constructs and theories.
If you are someone who has completed their Masters in Health Psychology or you are someone who is doing the Stage 2 route to become a Chartered Health Psychologist then this role is for you. You will be line managed by the Service Lead in Behavioural Science. You will receive support and supervision from the Service Lead to shape your career in applying behaviour change within Public Health.
What we are looking for:
- a MSc in Health Psychology (Stage 1) or a Trainee Health Psychologist undergoing their Stage 2 Health Psychology training either through a professional doctorate or the British Psychological Society (BPS) independent route
- substantial experience working in a setting such as public health applying behavioural science
- confident in applying academic knowledge within practice
- leading on projects and interventions with a key focus of behaviour change impact
- the skills and experience to design, develop, implement and evaluate behaviour change interventions
- the enthusiasm to be an advocate for behaviour change to promote sustainable behaviour change in the health and wellbeing of Birmingham citizens.
