Are you an experienced business intelligence or performance reporting leader with a passion for using data to drive better decisions? Birmingham City Council is looking for a Reporting and Intelligence Lead to join our newly established Commercial and Procurement Services. This is a unique opportunity to lead the development of reporting, business intelligence and data governance across one of the UK's largest local authorities. You'll transform complex commercial and procurement data into strategic insight, helping senior leaders make informed decisions while embedding a culture of data-driven performance, continuous improvement and accountability., As the Reporting and Intelligence Lead, you'll provide strategic leadership across reporting, business intelligence and performance by:

  • Leading and developing a high-performing reporting and intelligence team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Setting the strategic direction for Commercial and Procurement Services' performance reporting framework, developing meaningful metrics that align with organisational priorities.
  • Delivering high-quality analysis and business intelligence, providing senior leaders with clear insight into performance, trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Establishing and maintaining robust data governance, quality standards and reporting processes to ensure the integrity and reliability of commercial information.
  • Working collaboratively across procurement, finance and corporate teams to improve data quality, address reporting gaps and enhance information management.
  • Acting as the strategic link between business needs and reporting capability, translating organisational priorities into effective reporting and intelligence solutions.
  • Supporting governance, audit and assurance activities by providing reliable evidence, ensuring reporting complies with legislative, regulatory and organisational requirements.
  • Championing data-led decision-making, using insight to measure progress against strategic priorities including value for money, social value, sustainability and economic growth. We're looking for an experienced reporting and business intelligence leader who combines strong analytical capability with excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills. You'll bring:
  • Significant experience leading business intelligence, performance reporting or data analytics functions within a complex organisation.
  • Strong expertise in analysing large, complex datasets to generate strategic insight, identify trends and influence executive decision-making.
  • Experience developing reporting frameworks, performance dashboards and management information for senior leadership and governance boards.
  • A thorough understanding of data governance, data quality management and information standards, ensuring reliable and trusted reporting.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into meaningful business insight for a wide range of audiences.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience developing high-performing teams and promoting a culture of continuous improvement and evidence-based decision-making.
  • A relevant qualification in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, Information Management or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
