Birmingham City Council are recruiting for Housing Solutions and Support Caseworkers to join the team within Homelessness Services. Homelessness services are a great place to work, where you can actually make a positive difference to people's lives by early support and guidance to prevent it.
The successful candidates will be required to be flexible in their working, and good communicators in all formats. This is a challenging role in a highly pressured environment at a time of significant change. You will have great interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with people who can be very stressed and anxious and remain calm to understand their issues and provide them with the necessary advice within a legal framework. You will also have to record that interaction accurately and in detail on an IT system which records all your interventions on the customer's behalf to prevent their homelessness.
You will be expected to deliver expert housing advice and solutions; conduct thorough assessments and investigations; make referrals to other local authorities and support agencies; deliver high quality case management; and make informed homeless decisions within statutory guidelines.
We are looking for people who:
- Have great communication skills, verbal and written
- Are accurate with an attention to detail
- Are confident in their use of systems and databases
- Have knowledge of working within social housing and homelessness, but training is given for those with experience in another social or person facing field.
