We are seeking a motivated Affordable Housing Delivery Officer to work in our team which focuses on accelerating the delivery of affordable homes across the city. You will work closely with Registered Providers, developers and funders to bring forward new schemes that meet Birmingham’s housing need. We are looking for candidates who want to contribute to providing residents of Birmingham safe, secure and sustainable homes.
Successful applicants will have a good understanding of development and affordable housing, with a focus on project management, data analysis and an understanding of supporting and enabling partners to make real progress. We are looking for officers who have worked in development either for a Registered Provider or Local Authority, or who have a similar background in housing, regeneration, development, allocations, planning etc. The role is hybrid working, and onsite attendance is subject to service need.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Support a team managing the city’s affordable housing pipeline from concept to completion.
- Work closely with Registered Providers and developers to enable delivery.
- Input into Council nominations, tenure mix, typology and scheme design with partners and internal services including planning, legal and procurement.
- Develop business cases, options appraisals and funding bids to bring schemes forward.
- Support the team with queries relating to the sale of Council land.
- Manage project budgets, grant funding and Section 106 contributions to ensure investment is effectively directed.
- Report affordable housing delivery pipeline and progress through governance forums, including Housing Development Board, and support statutory returns.
- Work with funders such as Homes England and WMCA to secure investment.
About You
You will bring experience in affordable housing delivery or related field, with the ability to manage stakeholder relationships, support and manage projects and scheme pipelines and operate confidently in a local government environment.
You Will Have:
- Experience in housing development or related area within a Registered Provider, developer or local authority setting.
- Good understanding of planning, delivery and funding processes linked to affordable housing.
- Experience managing budgets and/or projects and ensuring value for money across housing schemes.
- Ability to analyse complex data and present clear, evidence-based recommendations.
